This has been a crazy few weeks of scrambling between renovations and garden works. The renovations have mostly been done by myself to establish our friend and primary support staff. The plumbing and electrical is in and the finishing is sufficient for her to start settling into her new home. There was also a whole lot of shuffling RV’s around and hooking up toilets to house our Woofers. With the exception of a brand new faucet that exploded on connection, all has been completed and everyone is sufficiently comfortable.
I have been pulling weeds sporadically. This task was mostly assigned to the Woofing crew. They have done a great job.
The battle has been mostly with red root amaranth and lambs quarter, both are considered edible but I have not tried. There is also an increasing amount of black night shade.
The tasks at hand had been so overwhelming I had considered leaving out garden development this year but my determination got the better of me. When I saw a head of lettuce costing $5, I was glad I made the push. Thanks to the Woofers, the effort was worth it. I got the garden ready, but it was the Woofers who help keep the weeds at bay so the preferred plants can grow: corn, beans, squash, lettuce, arrugala, and potatoes. Will look to get some spinach and other salad blends in the ground to fill the brown spaces and prevent more of the unwanted.
