Right after Father’s Day was my birthday; those years are passing quickly. As time ticks by it feels I should hurry up and work and get it done before there is no time left.
This has been good year for rain. It has been wet and despite sowing seeds late, many of them are thriving. I have most of the irrigation in place but didn’t need it so far. The forest fires are not threatening us this year but I am also not far from finishing the roof irrigation should conditions change. The rental is moving along slowly but with good pace; not nearly as fast I I like. The weeds are getting crazy but manageable. This year I don’t feel so lost and out of control. I am not 100% ready for the unknown challenges but I know I can flow with it.
New turning points almost always arise around my birthday. 4 years ago I signed the deeds to this property. This June I am finally feeling a good grasp of it. Whoever had said permaculture is simple may be right but permaculture is not easy.
Two down days in a row, that’s the gift I gave myself, permission to relax and enjoy the moment. The girls had planned a party on a dock at Blue Lake, but life, the added guests stirred us to a 8km hike in the Stein Valley. What a beautiful and adventurous way to spend the day. I drove across the Fraser River … Not! We took a scary ferry and had a close view of the river over the dash. I sure felt like driving across.
We had spent some time on the phone sorting out the no entry signs. We eventually spoke with the Stein First Nations office to get authorization to drive on their road. There is so much history here, I can see why they are protective of their land. It is beautiful. We hiked about 8km round trip to the Devil’s Stair Case.
